Each year, the City of Québec conducts a drinking water sampling campaign in about 50 residences in order to comply with the Règlement sur la qualité de l’eau potable (RQEP) of the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MDDELCC). These analyzes are used to determine if lead is present at the tap.

In order to meet the requirements of the RQEP, the Water Quality Division has identified areas of the city where residences are likely to have lead connections. Lead pipes have ceased to be used for drinking water pipes since 1975. The presence of a lead pipe increases the risk of contamination of drinking water. However, other factors must also be taken into account: water characteristics, temperature, plumbing design, etc.

This mini-conference will make un update on the situation of lead in water at the City of Quebec.
