Tenth webinar of the series entitled "Participatory and inclusive hydrological modelling in Tz'olöj Ya ', Guatemala"
Speaker: Julien Malard, PhD student, McGill University
Language: French, with slides in English
Summary: Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, a key to the region’s economy (fishing, agriculture, biodiversity, tourism), has suffered the impact of eutrophication (agriculture, residual waters). However, the majority of the proposed projects lack coordination and inclusion. While participatory modelling can improve coordination, it also risks excluding marginalized populations (especially indigenous people and women). We are working on an inclusive participatory modelling project, which, unlike other modelling methodologies, does not exclude any stakeholder because of its language or its level of comfort with the written language. This project uses system dynamics modelling, combined with oral narratives, to combine diverse knowledge and visions in a decision support model to better manage the water resources of the watershed.
New series of weekly CentrEau webinars "all about water management". These short 20-minute presentations will be offered live every Thursday at 1 p.m. followed by a short discussion period. CentrEau professors and researchers, as well as guest speakers, will present their research work and its importance in a semi-popularized manner.
