Forum for Municipalities: Research and Innovation for Sustainably Managing Municipal Stormwater

Municipalities and researchers : Let's work together to improve water management in Quebec!

* This event will be held in French only.

Moderator: Simon Barnabé, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Municipal Research Chair for Sustainable Cities, and Chief Scientific Advisor for the City of Victoriaville

Target audience: This meeting is intended for anyone in your municipality involved in stormwater management, both technical staff and decision makers, as well as university and college researchers.

A recent report by the Auditor General confirms that water management in Quebec is still deficient, and we see this as confirmation that more links need to be built between the research community and research-users. The Forum for Municipalities on Water Research Needs surveys municipalities on their concrete research needs in the area of water management. CentrEau, Quebec's strategic water management research cluster, is inviting municipalities to come together to explain their real research needs.

This Forum will allow you to:

  • Express your needs and interests in research related to the management of stormwater.

  • Identify relevant collaborators to work on solutions to issues related to this theme, both in the scientific and municipal communities.

  • Share and increase your knowledge of municipal stormwater management.

On the agenda:

  • Presentations highlighting the role of research and innovation in implementing stormwater management solutions:
    • Accelerating the implementation of stormwater management solutions
      • Patricia Gomez, Scientific Coordinator - Senior Project Manager, Centre des technologies de l’eau (a College Centre for the Transfer of Technologies affiliated with Cégep St-Laurent)
    • Sustainable stormwater management in Victoriaville
      • Joël Lambert, Director - Engineering and Environment Department, City of Victoriaville
    • Convergence of expertise for resilience to heavy rains in Longueuil
      • Julie-Maude Normandin, Chief Scientific Advisor, City of Longueuil
    • Chamonix : debate on the ups and downs of water !
      • Hervé Villard, VP, Ecological Transition and Circular Economy at Vallée de Chamonix, France

           See their presentations again here.

  • Group discussions, pairing municipalities, researchers and experts to share issues and explore the possibility of addressing them through a research project.

  • Plenary with all participants to conclude on perspectives and actionable next steps.
