Contaminants of emerging concern in water: a danger to human and ecosystem health? The increasing use of drugs, personal care products, pesticides and endocrine disruptors is causing their continuous intake through water: these substances, whose presence in the environment had not been detected before, deserve to be monitored and followed. The team of Prof. Sauvé studied the occurrence of contaminants of emerging concern in sewage, sludge and effluents from wastewater treatment plants, agricultural discharges, the river and in drinking water. What compounds are present, at what concentrations, and is there a real risk associated with their presence in the environment?
