Through their research, CentrEau members play a crucial role in improving the management and governance of continental water. Coming from various disciplines and sectors, members contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge in the field of water and the transfer of knowledge to practical settings for a tangible and positive impact on society.

Through its programs and services, CentrEau supports the ongoing efforts of its members and thus promotes the development of solutions to water-related issues. Here is an overview of the research and knowledge transfer carried out with support from the group:

  • Zaineb El Batti received a grant to present the conference “Development of a geomatics approach to estimate the flooded area from the flow simulated by a distributed hydrological model”, during the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union which It is held from May 23 to 27, 2022 in Vienna (Austria).

  • Yegane Khoshkalam received a grant to present the conference “Assessment of Transfer Learning Techniques to Improve Streamflow Predictions in Data-Sparse Regions”, at the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union held from May 23 to 27 2022 in Vienna (Austria).

  • Philippe Fortier received a grant for presenting a poster “The impact of variable saturation on the subsurface thermal regime: implications for ground freezing and talik dynamics at a degrading permafrost mound near Umiujaq (Nunavik, Canada)”, during the annual conference of the AGU which was held from December 12 to 16, 2022 in Chicago (USA).

  • Julian Andrès Espinosa Llano , received a grant for presenting the conference “Modeling the impact of deep, hydraulically-active fractures in post-glacial marine clay hillslopes: implications for groundwater flow systems and slope stability”, at the GAC-MAC conference. -IAH-CNC-CSPG which was held from May 15 to 18, 2022 in Halifax (Canada).

  • Henry Beral received a grant to present the conference “Impact of de-icing salt on the performance of bioretention in cold climate: water quantity & quality”, during the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition which was held from 11 to September 15 in Copenhagen (Denmark).

  • Nathan Young received a grant to present the “Groundwater in Cold Regions” lecture at the GAC-MAC-IAH-CNC-CSPG Conference, held May 15-18, 2022 in Halifax.

  • Janie Masse-Dufresne received a grant to present the conference “Active modification of the water cycle for the mutual benefit of agriculture and the environment: case study of the Ruisseau Rousse watershed in Quebec (Canada )” during the GAC-MAC-IAH-CNC-CSPG Conference, held from May 15 to 18, 2022 in Halifax.

  • Laurie Saint-Criq received a grant to present the conference “Analysis of extreme bursts of obliquity combining systematic bursts of obliquity and historical water levels” at the 5th international conference on advances in value analysis Extremes and Their Application to Natural Hazards (EVAN), May 17-19, 2022, Orlando, FL, United States.

  • Oumaima El Hachimi received a grant to present the lecture “Treatment of Landfill Leachate by Membrane Bioreactor” at the 57th Canada CENTER Conference on Water Quality Research in Toronto.

  • Kamilia Haboub received a grant to virtually present the conference “Particle characterization and transport processes in view of modeling the fate of SARS-CoV-2 in sewer systems” at the Urban Drainage Modeling (UDM) Congress on January 9, 2022.

  • Sovanna Tik received a grant to virtually present the conference “Towards fault-tolerant strategies for water quality-based control of the integrated urban wastewater systems” at the Urban Drainage Modeling (UDM) Congress on January 10, 2022 .

Career development supported by CentrEau’s Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) Mobility Program

2022

  • Benjamin Bouchard received a mobility grant to complete an internship in Switzerland in the summer of 2022.

  • Eole Valence received a mobility grant to follow the “Lautaret field workshop: snow and atmosphere interface” training in France in February-March 2022.

  • Raymond Kabo received a mobility grant for a field activity in Senegal in winter 2022.

  • Mohammadreza Alizadeh received a mobility grant for a visit to MIT facilities in Massachusetts in winter 2022.
