Research axis :

Water Availability Axis

Interests :

Seasonal frost in the soil limits water infiltration, and, favors runoff on a local scale. However, little is known about the influence of frost on river flow on a watershed scale. Research in Quebec has shown that attempting to reproduce river flow with a model that does not take ground frost into account underestimates floods by 17%. Ground frost therefore exerts a significant influence on river flooding in the province. However, we have little knowledge of the subject due to the complexity of frost, its heterogeneity in space and the difficulty of measuring and modeling it. This project therefore seeks to better understand the variability of frost in soil over time and space, in order to better understand its impact on water infiltration and runoff.
